The main football tournament of the year, EURO 2020, kicked off on 11 June.
With the first matches, the football community was alarmed by incidents that occurred during the football matches of Denmark – Finland and Belgium – Russia.
Saved lives right on the field
The first incident happened during the Denmark-Finland match at the end of the first half. Christian Eriksen suddenly fell on the lawn and lost consciousness. Doctors immediately appeared on the field, and teammates closed the victim from the cameras. Doctors provided Eriksen with emergency assistance – the player underwent cardiac defibrillation.
After that, the doctors took the player away on a stretcher. Christian left the field wearing an oxygen mask. An ambulance took him to the hospital. UEFA representatives said that the player’s condition has stabilized. The Danish Football Association said nothing threatens Eriksen’s life: he is conscious and is undergoing further medical examination at the Rigshospitalet hospital.
Many football players and clubs have already reacted to this incident on their social networks. Despite the dire incident, UEFA approved the decision to end the match on the same day.
The Finnish team defeated Denmark in their debut match in the history of the European Championships.

The second incident happened during the Belgium – Russia match.
The Belgian national team player Timothy Castagne received a double fracture of the eye socket wall due to a collision in combat with Daler Kuzyaev. Due to the injury, the footballer will miss the rest of the championship matches.
