At 58 years old and 18 years removed from his last professional basketball match, hall of famer Michael Jordan continues to make history. A game-worn jersey of Jordan was sold at Heritage Auctions for a record $1.38 million.
Jordan wore the jersey during his sophomore season (1982-83) with the University of North Carolina Tar Heels when the Sporting News named him the collegiate player of the year.
The latest sale eclipsed the previous record for a game-worn basketball jersey of $480,000 set last October 2020. The said memorabilia item was another one of Jordan’s jerseys. This one was a Chicago Bulls uniform with number 23 used in the 1986-87 NBA season where Jordan was the league’s leading scorer.
Jordan is a six-time NBA champion with the Chicago Bulls, a two-time Olympic champion, and a five-time NBA MVP. He ended his career in 2003 with the Washington Wizards.
Here’s a look at his career with the Chicago Bulls.
He presented Kobe Bryant to the Basketball Hall of Fame on May 15.
