Background
Sport has the power to be used as a tool for developmental agendas such as Health and Well-being.
For the sport to successfully and positively impact the health and well-being of local communities, it is very important to establish accessible community physical Education programs. Most of the Zambian communities do not have Community Physical Education programs where people can actively get involved in physical exercises. If a community has one, gym fees are too expensive and hence only the upper-class people manage to pay for membership. This has significantly hindered community participation in physical exercises and therefore negatively impacting health and wellbeing.
To improve this, it is important to establish community physical Education programs that can be easily and cheaply accessed by the members of the community. This will promote mass participation in physical exercises by the general public.
The main goal
Senifitness project aims to promote community participation in physical exercises and active living by providing fitness services that improve general health and wellbeing. Key objectives are the following:
- Provide quality fitness services without using complex gym equipment;
- Empower people to improve their own physical and mental well-being;
- Build a culture of regular participation in physical exercises among community members.
To enhance mass participation in Physical exercises, Senifitness services was established in 2019 by Mr. Nicholas Chipeta – SNU DTM Alumni, who lives in Zambia currently working in the Ministry of General Education as a Sports and Physical Education teacher.
